It primarily focuses on Europe, both geographically and culturally. Within this narrow space, it addresses a longer period of history, spanning from the late Middle Ages to the twentieth century. The contributions call attention to both the institutions of inspection including its relevant actors, and the processes of inspection and supervision over school teaching and school systems.
